Question & Answer

Who are you and what do you do?

I am Jonn Laserna an artist. I usually use my memory and experiences as a base of inspiration on making my artworks .

I tend to portray an abstract surrealistic paintings as an expression of myself.  


Why do you do what you do?

To inspire people and to motivate the generations to come.


How do you work?

I make studies and research based on what I want to accomplish specifically to what is my goal on working on my artworks, I find inspirations and motivation to finish my work.


What’s your background?

I graduated in an Art School(School for the Arts) here in Iloilo and proceeded to Bachelor of Fine Arts(BFA) and as of now a freelance studio artist.  


What themes do you pursue?

The themes of art I usually use are body, memory and time with the execution of either abstract surrealism or abstract expressionism.  


What art do you most identify with?

Abstract surrealism and Abstract expressionism.


What jobs have you done other than being an artist?

Being an assistant nurse in a hospital. Because  of being a certified practical nurse I was privileged to experience that kind of a job. Which I didn't enjoy. 


What do you like about your work?

I like developing community and helping children around the streets or out of town. I also teach children the basic fundamentals of art every summer. 


What do you dislike about the art world?

I don't have much to say about the art world, because for me it is not there to be disliked. But it is there to be appreciated for its evolution. 


Name something you love, and why.

Animals and Nature. Because they give balance in our existence.


What’s your goal?

To inspire people and enjoy living my life to its extent.


Describe a real-life situation that inspired you?

Seeing a group of people that still speak and live in a traditional way inspired me. Like for example, our very own Panay Bukidnon.


Should art be funded?

Yes, Like other countries, people should have the art appreciation for what Art offers at the present. We might not appreciate Art for now but  on how art changes the perspective and its evolution in a community or state makes a difference especially when it has a cultural value that makes our Identity.


What food, drink, song inspires you?

Any food can do. Drink? Any alcoholic or non alcoholic drink can also help. Songs? well, as long as it has a good rhythm like reggae, acoustic etc. I'm good.


What is your artistic outlook in life?

To create an Identity to my work and to contribute a revolutionary idea in this contemporary world.
